The Makonde, Makua, and Yao tribal communities have rich cultures that for decades were undervalued and shunned, first by colonial powers and then by " Ujamaa" socialist era attitudes. We are acquiring and displaying local artifacts and their related stories to benefit Tanzanian and international visitors and researchers. As modernization sweeps over Africa and elders depart
from us with their stories and histories, this work is urgent.
